“Kids With Guns” is a pretty direct, blunt title when it comes to trying to figure out what the song is about the desensitization of children to violence due to constant appearances of firearms being ubiquitous in everyday culture, not to mention the ease of access to which one can receive a weapon. The idea that the rest of the world has fallen under darkness is a prominent theme in Demon Days and the Gorillaz try to make the audience think about the effect the human race collectively has on the Earth. “Last Living Souls” is self-explanatory, posing a question to the listener whether or not together, the band and the listener are the only ones left with any kind of conscience.

It sets the musical stage in which the album takes place, and perfectly delivers the type of first impression the listener should get when trying to feel for what the rest of the album will be. “Intro” isn’t so much a song as it is a mood setter, mixing and mashing a smorgasbord of creepy sounds and scary voices. It’s true complexity in an album, and this is why I love Demon Days so much.ĭeon Days has 15 tracks, all having their significant impact on the overall tone of the album. The sounds of the tracks themselves do not sound totally dark in every way, making the audience try to discern what is being conveyed behind the creator’s means. It truly is a dark album but that is what essentially makes it beautiful. The album had tackled such themes as fighting personal demons, war, depression, love, death, darkness, etc. Coming out in May of 2005, it had shortly garnered Platinum twice in the United States, even peaking on the Billboard at number six, a pretty high score considering the band were still seen as newcomers on the scene. Both Albarn and Hewlett had gone and made something completely original, and subsequently had captivated audiences flawlessly.ĭemon Days was the second album out of the four total that Gorillaz had released. Without Hewlett, Gorillaz would be without an image that could be used to instill the iconic personifications of the duo’s expressions behind their songs. Albarn was the spirit behind the musical drive in which the virtual band took direction in. Obviously the music was made in the real world by very competent talented musicians, but the real masterminds behind Gorillaz was Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. It marked the first time in which a virtual band, not one member being tangible, had such a remarkable influence upon the music world. Starting with their first album, Gorillaz, and spawning five hit singles, Gorillaz was launched into superstardom. The Gorillaz have been around for almost a decade and a half and they have certainly made their mark. Noodle, 2D, Russel, and Murdoc: The Gorillaz
